Chile
Welcome to Chile!
Bienvenidos a Chile!
Most of Patagonia is located in Argentina, but the second country that has its share of this unique landscape region is Chile. Due to its special, elongated shape, Chile accompanies us for some time on our journey through South America. Chile is very long, around 4200km, but on average only 200km wide. How does such a narrow yet large country work? The prosperity of Chile is one of the highest in the whole of South America, and we are also curious about that. Chile’s cities certainly form a good contrast to the picturesque landscapes that we can discover here. Chile also has a comparatively homogeneous population for Latin America. We can therefore look forward to discove an independent culture in this country. Due to the narrow extension from east to west, we will also get to know many border crossings from Chile and into Chile, as we naturally want to travel the entire width of Patagonia. All of this is part of our South American adventure!
Come along, get on board and join us virtually on our journey! We have listed all our blog posts about Chile below.
Chiloé Island
We like island life, so we would also like to visit an island in Chile. It's not as easy as with the island of Chiloé in the rest of Chile, so we get on the ferry and cross over. The island of Chiloé is the fifth largest island in the whole of South America and is...
Humberstone saltpeter works
As announced, we are on a round trip through the north of Chile. We are a little surprised, we may have started in the Atacama Desert near San Pedro de Atacama, but the whole of northern Chile seems to be one big desert. We drive for hours through rocky and sandy...
Patagonia – Marble Caves
As the Patagonia region is really big, we are publishing the next highlights straight away. Due to the particularly harsh climate, there are many natural attractions that are simply worth seeing and reporting on. This blog post is about exciting marble formations on...
Patagonien – Puerto Montt to Río Tranquilo
We have finally arrived in Patagonia. Still more in the northern part but nevertheless in the middle of Patagonia on the Chilean side. Now we are following Ruta 7 instead of Ruta 5 as the main route further south. The section of Ruta 7 from Puerto Montt is also known...
Pichilemu
The most beautiful stretch of coastline, possibly on the entire Pacific side of South America, can be found in Pichilemu. And not only that, with Punta de Lobos, Pichilemu also has perfect waves to offer an impressive view of the sea and also attracts many surfers...
San Pedro de Atacama
After our last adventure in Bolivia, we have now officially entered Chile. In that sense: Welcome to Chile! Our 13th border crossing since we landed in Mexico, 15 months and over 32,000km ago.Despite regular border crossings on our journey, it is always a small...
Santiago de Chile
Following our plan of moving back and forth between Argentina and Chile, we have traveled a long way and are reporting from Santiago de Chile today. The capital of Chile is a global metropolis that looks very different from the rest of Chile that we have seen so far....
Siete Tazas National Park
After Pichilemu, we drove south along the coast towards the town of Constitución for a few more days. We really enjoy these days – after all, we hadn't been to the sea for a while. But as always after a certain amount of time in a similar landscape, we look for a...
Tierra del Fuego
From the southernmost mainland of South America, we can drive a few kilometers further south with our campervan Ben. Not that far compared to the length of the entire continent of South America, but still a few hundred kilometers. From Punta Arenas, a ferry takes us...
Torres del Paine National Park
In the Torres del Paine National Park, everything revolves around a large mountain formation, the towers or Torres del Paine. The striking mountain formation is hidden within the larger Cordillera del Paine – the Torres themselves are not very visible on the approach....
Valparaíso
As the name in Spanish suggests, Valparaíso is supposed to be a paradisiacal valley. Perhaps it used to be, but today Valparaíso is more of a somewhat run-down harbor town. But we wouldn't go here if there weren't one or two tourist attractions in Valparaíso. To visit...
