Grenoble

Grenoble – the city in the middle of the French Alps in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. We explore the old town and the directly adjacent hill of the Bastille. But more importantly, we get to meet friends from Switzerland again here in Grenoble. In Grenoble we deliberately do not have a too dense program, because we want to use the time for the common exchange.

Art museum “Le Magasin

During our tour of Grenoble, we decide to make a detour to Le Magasin, an art center. Murals adorn the streetscape on many facades in Grenoble. And the further we get from the train station in the direction of Le Magasin on the street Cr Berriat, the more murals we discover. We are already almost guided by itself into the art and cultural district of Grenoble.
The four of us visit the current exhibition at Le Magasin. Emerging artists from the African continent process their everyday life situations in different sculptures as well as in picture and video productions. For us, the focus is also on the building, since the art museum is housed in an old factory building. Inside, however, the hall recedes very much into the background, since it should be primarily about the exhibited art.

Old town and city life of Grenoble

In the old town of Grenoble, we see a lot of the ancient center of the city. Finally, we start our visit in Grenoble on a holiday, so we have almost no other alternative than to study the various old streets and houses in detail. But that doesn’t matter. Besides the older buildings, there is also one or the other green park that is worth a detour. In addition, we are thus provided with many different ideas in which bars and restaurants we would like to stop during our 4-day visit to Grenoble.
Unfortunately, the weather does not play along for an extremely extended city tour on foot. Thus it comes that we frequently stop in one of the cafes or bars along the way. Finally, we decide to bridge the rainy weather with an Escape Room. We find an Escape Room in Grenoble, which we can play in English. This way, the puzzles to escape the room and fulfill our mission are easier to understand and solve than in French.
The alternative program to an extended hike thrilled all four of us, even our Escape Room novice was captivated by the experience.

Trip to the top of the hill – Fort de la Bastille

Directly adjacent to the old town on the other side of the river Isère is a former fortress on a hill. It is now used for cultural purposes and is a real visitor magnet for locals and tourists alike. The magnificent view over the valley and Grenoble really captivates us. To provide some variety, we walk a circular route further up the mountain. After the first very well-developed hiking trails, we take a rather suboptimal turn on our self-arranged circular route. The path is suddenly extremely narrow and very slippery because of the past rainfalls. After a few hundred meters we decide not to turn back, but rather to continue to the highest point of our circular route. The path should be noticeably wider there.
After another 20 minutes we finally find a better way. With that we had enough adventure for us as a group of four, we head quickly back to the starting point, where the viewing terrace is waiting for us with an afternoon strengthening.

Or not, the two gentlemen of the group first shimmy over the rope park with several long ziplines before they also go over to the after-work beer. The rope park is really well done. It is seamlessly integrated in and around the old fortress building and the adventurous ones can thus – always secured – also climb over the obstacle course on the outer facade of the fortress. A really thrilling experience!

We liked Grenoble more and more, especially at the second and third glance. In the beginning, we were rather reserved towards Grenoble. Our negative expectations were weakened a little bit with every further day in Grenoble. With joy we look back on the visit of our friends and the city of Grenoble. It was nice!

Often we sit for hours in coffee shops, write our blog, sort out pictures and edit them. That’s quite a large number of coffees together. Maybe you would like to buy us one or two?
